identity + book design — Janice lessman-moss
Janice Lessman-Moss is an internationally recognized textile artist, who pioneered digital weaving at Kent State University, building the KSU School of Art’s textiles program throughout her career into a competitive and nationally respected hub of textile artists. Former students of the textiles program at KSU include the globally acclaimed Icelandic artist Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson among many others. Lessman-Moss’s impact on the Fiber Art community has been immense and I was humbled to be able to work on a catalogue, postcard and signage for my mentor and supervisor for a retrospective of her work held at the Kent State Museum in 2022 entitled ‘Dancing with the Distance’. For this catalogue, I utilized a simplified and abstract notational system incorporating the themes of movement, rhythm and scale that the show was curated around. I am very grateful for the experience to work so closely both with Janice and her awe-inspiring body of work.
