Peter & The Wolf
In 2023, I worked on the design of a logotype commissioned by the co-directors Stephen McNally and Elliot Dear (Blink Ink) for their feature film Peter & the Wolf. Produced by BMG and Blink Industries, this film is an adaptation of the lead singer of U2, Bono’s illustrated book, and features music and narration by Gavin Friday as part of an ongoing relationship with the Irish Hospice Foundation. Peter & The Wolf is a riff on Sergei Prokofiev’s 1936 orchestral fairytale. I developed a logotype for use in the title sequence and for promotional material.
However, at the last minute the logo was replaced with lettering which instead Bono himself drew in live footage as part of a sequence at the beginning of the film at the request of the distribution company (can’t argue with that!). Although my work was not used, it served as strong art direction for Bono’s lettering, and there is a demonstrable influence of the forms which I developed in the shapes that appear in the final outcome. This is reflected in the director’s including me in the credits of the film which was released October 19 2023 and has received critical acclaim since then, touring film festivals and being nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Special in 2025. The film is distributed internationally on HBO Max.
