Irish Folklore Trilogy

 Irish Folklore Trilogy

In 2021, as the studio prepared to release an exclusive Bluray box-set edition of three of their thematically related and Academy-award nominated feature films, they commissioned me to create a piece of custom lettering for the boxset which would marry the styles of the three films together, and serve as an umbrella identity for the boxset. The title was Irish Folkore Trilogy, and the lettering needed to sit into a specific shape on the illustrated manuscript-inspired cover artwork. For this, I designed multiple approaches grounded in the Irish manuscript tradition, and the final outcome combines archaic forms with contemporary letterforms in a modernized and clean logotype comprised of two letter styles. I have spoken about this project at the invitation of Prof. Robin Fuller at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin for his Typographic Futures postgraduate course, presenting this project as a case study on how typography speaks to and reflects cultural identity .
